Who are Your Targeted Audience - Defining Your Audience (Easy Guide for Business and Artists)
How to know who are your targeted audience?
People differ from each other in many ways, everyone has his own hobbies, style, desires and favorite breakfast meal. This is why I most likely can’t sell a basketball ball to Tennis player.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a musician or if you hold a business, defining who your audience are is a huge part of your brand, after all your brand offers services and those services are not relevant for everyone (and yes, Instagram content is a kind of service).
So how do you know who would want your service? Who your services are relevant to? There are many ways to define your targeted audience, but mainly you need to ask some good questions that you would ask a person who you want to know better. When meeting a new friend you want to know a lot about him, you mainly would want to know what you both have in common. Here either, find what your brand personality and your audience have in common. A great way I found to do so is to imagine you are talking or dating the perfect person that might love your brand or enjoy your services. Ask him how old is he? Where does he live? What is his favorite color? Just get to know him like a close friend, the more information you have on your audience the closer you can get to them.
When you done writing down this list of information you should follow the next steps:
1. Do you already have people who use your service? In case you already have some audience base try to know everything about them (as long as you don’t harm their privacy of course), find what is the common information between all of them.
Bonus tip: Give a survey to your audience, ask them to answer it and ask for specific information that you would like to know. Nowadays it’s easy to do so thanks to Facebook and Google.
2. Do you have information on your competitors audience? You can find a lot of information about your audience from your competitors audience in case your audience are similar. Make a full research, it worth the time.
3. Have you ever spoke with your audience? A friendly conversation between you and your audience tightens your relationship and gives you more information about them, don’t sell them anything just talk with them personally, one on one conversation. It’s important to do not rely on one conversation, the more conversations you make – the best results you’ll get.
To sum up, defining your targeted audience takes time, so don’t be afraid to spend a week of research on your audience, it might take longer or not, but in the end of the day your audience are what behind your brand’s success, so don’t compromise on them.
